The best laptop has to meet all your specific computing needs, and, if it does, then it’s the best laptop for you. In this review we cover full-featured laptops for serious play and work. You probably may want to look first at ultraportable laptops, if you are a frequent traveler or a business user. Those lightweight notebooks would typically have very good battery life and weigh less than 5 pounds. But we would not recommend them for multimedia tasks, graphics rendering, intensive number crunching or for gaming as they are not the most powerful laptops.

Last of all, multimedia laptops would appeal to those of you who would like to watch movies or stream music on your laptop as they boast large displays and such extra features as Blu-ray drives or a Netgear Push2TV adapter. They would be powerful enough to serve as your primary computer.

Hp Envy 14 Beats Edition has outstanding reviews for the latest laptops in the Envy series, in fact no other laptop gets more recommendations than the 14.5-inch Hp Envy 14. The Beats Edition comes with a high-end Beats Audio sound system, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 switchable graphics, a 500 GB hard drive, 4 GB of RAM, and a 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5-460M processor. If you wish, you can upgrade the components at HP.com. Other features include an HDMI output and built-in Bluetooth, three USB ports, and a slot-loading DVD burner. The Beats Edition has a black design and red backlit keyboard, unlike the regular aluminum HP Envy 14. To help you tweak the equalizer settings, the manufacturer has included an audio console.

If you are like me and do not want to pay extra money for the special styling of the Beats Edition, then the Hp Envy 14 laptop would be the right choice for you. It starts with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core i3-370M, but, for an extra $50, it will be also available with the Core i5-460M CPU that you can find on the Beats Edition. This version comes in sleek aluminum similar to the Apple MacBook Pro. Even though it lacks the audio console and the red lighting system, it still includes the Beats Audio sound system. Consumers love the comfortable keyboard, edge-to-edge glass display, and the stylish design. One of the reviewers at PCMag.com reports that the Envy 14 has an exceptional keyboard, with keys that are adequately spaced and raised high enough for a deep response. Most reviewers agree the Hp Envy 14 laptop has the same pros and cons as the Beats Edition, and would be an exceptional choice if you’d prefer silver instead of black and do not really require the audio console. In my opinion, if you have to choose your favorite Windows laptop, the HP Envy 14 should be pretty much at the tippy top of your list.

Some entertainment laptops are now available with 3D displays, which could, in theory, make movies and games more exciting. The 15.6-inch Lenovo IdeaPad Y560D laptop is one of those 3D laptops. So, if you are in the market for a very potent entertainment notebook, this laptop would be an excellent choice. It delivers very strong performance in combination with a stand-out design, 3D capability and reasonable price. The base model comes with a 1.73 GHz Intel Core i7-740QM CPU, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730 graphics, 6 GB of RAM, and a 500 GB hard drive. Also standard are HDMI output and 6-cell lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery and A dual-layer DVD burner.
The keyboard keys have a good tactile feel and are very responsive, living up to Lenovo’s excellent reputation in this area. Its textured touchpad also requires fewer movements than those on the Hp Envy laptops. The Core i7 processor and discrete graphics ensure fast speed, even when running a number of demanding tasks all at once. In some cases, reviewers reported the Lenovo IdeaPad Y560D performed better, when playing demanding games, than dedicated gaming laptops like the Alienware M11x.
