If you favor a large display, the Hp Envy 17 laptop would attract your attention as a desktop replacement. It is considered by many experts the best under-$2,000 entertainment desktop replacement to date and is packed with extras that should normally drive the price up, but, somehow, they don’t. According to many reviews, the 17.3-inch high-resolution display looks particularly stunning, especially when used for movies and games. It’s powerful performance is good for nearly any task. Most reviewers, however, tested a model upgraded with a Core i7 processor, but its base model comes with 6 GB of RAM, a 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5-460M CPU, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 graphics and 500 GB hard drive. It also has a standard slot-loading DVD drive. You should normally be able to upgrade your Envy 17 with dual hard drives, additional battery, and Blu-ray drive. As well. you will get a 5-in-1 media card reader, USB 3.0 port and an HDMI output.
As the larger laptop’s design is very similar to the Hp Envy 14, it earns the same praise for its intuitive backlit keyboard (which also features a number pad), excellent build quality and stylish aluminum case. The Beats Audio speakers, included with the Envy 17, offer better sound than most laptop speakers and boast loud volume without distortion. The Hp Envy 17 laptop can play nearly all modern games at it native resolution, including “Company of Heroes” and “Unreal Tournament III,” which earns it excellent marks for performance, particularly with the Intel Core i7 CPU.
On a downside, HP Envy 17 is criticized for its touchpad, when multitouch gestures are not always recognized, as well as for the short battery life, which lasts about two hours on an average.
